Our team of three will be working with Casas por Cristo (Houses for Christ). Our group Gary Garris, Jeff Whitlatch, and Jason Kramer will be participating in what Casas calls a "scout" build. They do this once or twice a year to introduce new groups to this ministry. We will be joining a few other church groups who have also sent people to scout out the possibility of bringing their church group. Our task will be to build a house, from the ground up, for a local family. At the end of three days we will hand the family the keys to their new house. The main income for this family is $255/week.
The purpose for building is two-fold. First, we are sharing the love of Christ with the family, extended family, neighbors, and community in hope that we might have opportunities to present the gospel. Secondly, trips like these are great opportunities for discipleship within your own group as you travel, work, and do life together. Our main goal is to see if Casas might be a good opportunity for a future trip for our people at Highland Drive.
